Sky Go for Android 1.0

If you are a Sky subscriber in the UK or Republic of Ireland, this is a free app that enables you to access a range of Sky content on your Android phone which incurring additional charges. Providing you are using one of the supported devices - HTC Desire, HTC Desire S, HTC Desire HD, HTC Incredible, HTC Sensation, Samsung Galaxy S or Samsung Galaxy S II running Android 2.2 or 2.3 – you can watch up to 22 channels on your mobile over a data or wifi connection.
With access to a wide range of movie and sports channels, as well as news, arts and reality TV, there’s shortage of programming to choose from when you’re out and about. The interface is neatly designed so the programming guide is easy to navigate and browsing through the channels is a simple enough affair.
Assuming you can gain access to a strong enough signal for long enough, this is a great way to keep yourself entertained on lengthy journeys, or on occasions when you are away from home but don’t want to miss out on your favourite programmes. If you are going on holiday, you are likely to find that you do not have satellite TV available to you, but if you take your phone with you, you will still be able to watch the channels you are paying for each month.
While the app is a good idea, it is something that has a relatively small audience. Not only do users need to be Sky subscribers, but they also need to be Android users. On top of these they need to be using one of only seven support handsets and not running the latest version of the mobile operating system and you can’t have rooted your device – this is hopefully something that will be addressed in future releases.
