Facebook 4 Android 2.0

One of the most common uses for smartphones – besides making phone calls – is to access the internet, and social networks in particular. By far the most popular social network is Facebook, and the official Android app makes it even easier to access and interact with the services than the mobile version of the web site.

As you would expect, the app makes it possible to post status updates and messages as well as conducting chats with your friends. The current version of the app is a much sleaker affair than in the past, and it’s easier than ever to watch video, read messages and interact with others.

The very latest version of the app includes support for a swipe-to-update gesture which makes it faster than ever to view the latest posts. Support for the newer privacy controls means that you can now configure location and visibility options for individual posts that you make. A redesigned news feed can also be used to check into places when you are out and about.

Another new gesture allows for easier navigation between images in galleries; rather than having to tap arrows to move from one image to another, you can simply swipe left and right. The Android version of the app is still not as complete as the iPhone version, but it’s getting there.

Now this has changed with the release of Chrome for Android. As with other mobile browsers, tabbed browsing is available, along with a pleasingly clear interface and cross platform synchronization.
If you are already using Chrome as your main browser on your PC or Mac, you’ll be aware that it is possible to synchronize not only information such as your bookmarked sites and browser settings between computers, but also open tabs. This idea has also been brought to the mobile version of the browser, essentially providing you with a seamless browsing experience as you move from one device to another.
When it comes to working with tabs, there is a very pleasing stacked view that makes it easy to navigate between open tabs. One of the problems that many people have with mobile web browsers that pages can be slow to load and rendering can leave a little to be desired. Chrome for Android is quick to use and pages look good and there are a couple of interesting way to interact with your browser. To navigate between tabs you can simply swipe left and right, and when you are in tab preview mode you can tilt your devices to zoom in and out.

It is a service that has been talked about for just about as long as anyone can remember, but now that Google Drive has finally been released to the public there are desktop and mobile apps that can be used to access the files that you have chosen to store in the cloud. If you are a Mac or PC user this is a dedicated synchronization tool that enables you to keep a local folder in sync with your online storage – add or remove a file in either location and the changes will be reflected in the other.
It is important that you take care when installing the software as this is the only opportunity you are given to choose which local folder should be used for synchronization – there is no way to change this after it has been set. The options available through the app, side from synching, are fairly limited, but it is the service itself – complete with its 5GB of online storage – that is most noteworthy.
The app does enable you to very quickly access your on- and offline files as well as giving you a way of quickly jumping to any files that have been shared with you. That’s really all there is to the Google Drive app. Some may describe it as underwhelming, but all of the hard work is already being done by Google Drive itself. What this app does provide you with is an easy way to interact with your files that neatly integrated into Explorer and Finder depending on which platform you’re using.
Android users will find that the existing Google Docs app automatically updates and transforms into Google Drive and in many respects there is little difference between the two. You can browse through the files you have already created and edited in Google Docs as well as creating documents from scratch or even uploading photos and other files from your phone or tablet. Anything that you have stored in your account can be shared with others, sent via email or other means or made available offline – almost every eventually is catered for.

Viber - Free Phone Calls & Text 2.2.3

If you have an iPhone, you have all of the features that can be found in Apple's iPod with the added benefit of being able to make phone calls. But even if you do have an iPhone, call can be expensive depending on the tariff you are using. Viber is a free VoIP app in a similar vein to Skype that can be used to send and receive free phone calls and text messages with other Viber users.
The problem with any such app is that it is reliant on the people you need to get in touch with having the same app installed. This is true of Viber but it does have one big advantage. All that is required is the app itself; there is no configuration required and no need to build up a list of contacts. When you place a call through Viber, you do so using your friends' regular phone number.
There is certainly no denying that when it is working, Viber is a great app and provides a way of saving money on the calls you make. However, there are occasional problems with sound quality as well as random disconnections. It is difficult to complain about such problems when an app is free, but it does make it hard to rely on Viber as your primary means of communication.
For iPod and non-3G iPad users, Viber adds a handy calling facility to an already handy device while providing iPhone users with the ability to save a chunk of cash on voice calls and text messages. With an interface that is almost indistinguishable from the iPhone's usual phone 'app' Viber is a seriously useful tool that's worth trying out.

Watch some great classic Christmas movies that play a lot during Christmas time (These movies are pretty good and are mostly family oriented. So don't worry.)
